Discover - Partner - Serve

Westhaven Baptist is a New Testament church that exists for the supremacy of the name and purpose of Jesus. We believe Christ’s life, death, and resurrection are essential to God’s plan to heal and redeem our fallen world, and we're dedicated to being a part of what He’s doing in our city and throughout the nations.

Grow with Us at Westhaven Baptist Church!
At Westhaven Baptist Church, we believe in a growth process that draws us closer to Jesus and equips us to serve others. Our mission is to:

1. Discover the Love of Jesus “We love because He first loved us.” — 1 John 4:19 Join us for Sunday services and experience the transforming love of Jesus. Through worship, teaching, and community, we aim to help you discover the fullness of His love and grace.

2. Partner with Jesus’ People “Therefore encourage one another and build each other up.” — 1 Thessalonians 5:11 We partner with Jesus' people through life groups that meet during the week and a midweek Bible study and dinner on Wednesday nights. Together, we build lasting relationships, grow in faith, and support one another on our journey.

3. Serve Others with the Love of Jesus “Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” — Matthew 5:16 Use your gifts, time, and talents to impact our community and beyond. Through outreach and service opportunities, we strive to live out Jesus’ love in tangible ways.
Each step builds on the one before it and deepens your commitment to following Jesus. As you move through these steps, you will grow in your walk with Him and find purpose in serving His people and the world around you.

Meet our Pastor
Pastor Glenn and Shelia have been at Westhaven since 2021.  Glenn is originally from New York City but came to Portsmouth in 1976 as youth pastor at the Alliance Church on Portsmouth Blvd.  He met Shelia, who at the time was teaching at Western Branch High School and they were married in 1978.  In 1980 they moved to Thailand and served as missionaries there for 8 years.  In 1988 they relocated to Malaysia where they worked as dorm parents and teachers at Dalat School, a school for missionary kids from all over Southeast Asia.  In 1997 they moved again, this time to Black Forest Academy, an MK school in Southwestern Germany, working mainly in the boarding program.  After 12 years there they relocated to Toledo, Ohio where for 12 years Glenn worked as the Community Life pastor.  Glenn ministered at Westhaven first as interim pastor, then associate pastor and now lead pastor.

Glenn and Shelia have three grown children and 6 grandchildren and most of their vacations are spent with one or more of their families!
